Abstract
Yeats probably finished work on The Shadowy Waters towards the end of 1899 (L 332). Lines 1–44 appeared in S (1 Dec. 1900). ‘The Harp of Aengus’ first appeared in the North American Review (May 1900), and the text of the play together with these two poems in Poems 1899–1905 (1906). The text in CP is very different from the original version which is reprinted in VE 745 ff. There is a different version in CPl, an acting version used at the Abbey Theatre and published by Bullen in 1907.
