Abstract

IN 1961 and 1962 Wolverhampton became notorious for displaying the evil effects of party politics in local government. The national and local press pointed to Wolverhampton as an example of the way in which the conflict between parties abused the institution of the Aldermanic bench. The crisis of these years shows the political system on the Wolverhampton Council under exceptional strain.
