Foucault’s questioning of the ways we know ourselves and his questioning of the ways we conduct ourselves assists thinking and action in present educational ethics. By investigating Foucault’s ethics in education, this book explores the question: How do we form ourselves as ethical subjects? This along with the question of constitution of the subject works against a subject/object binary in education. This introductory chapter addresses how Foucault’s work as a historian of thought contributes to educational thought and practice.
