Abstract
The Lithuanian Social Democratic Party, founded in Vilnius in 1896, was the first political party in modern Lithuania. It emerged at the same time as many of the left-wing parties in Western Europe, and its program is based on the ideas of the Second International, as well as the programs of German, Austrian and Polish social democratic parties.
