Italy: Still Looking for a New Era in the Making of EU Policy
Italy was among the founding fathers of the European Economic Community (EEC). It is well known for its peculiar combination of a highly positive attitude to the European Union (EU), shared by both the political elites and public opinion, and the weak performance of the political and administrative system in the policy cycle of the EU (Giuliani and Piattoni, 2001; Gallo and Hanny, 2003; Cotta et al., 2005; Giuliani, 2006).
