Abstract

In the remote village of San Luis by the shore of Lake Maracaibo in Venezuela lives a community unusually heavily afflicted with an inherited nerve-wasting condition called Huntington’s disease. People with this disease develop involuntary limb movements when in their 30s or 40s, followed by paralysis. Bizarrely, the disease gets worse over successive generations.
