Abstract

We are obsessed with it — curly hair, straight hair, eye colour, the shapes of our noses and other body parts — our appearance is a constant source of fascination. New parents speculate endlessly about the resemblance between their babies and other family members. After that, their attention turns to behaviour, personality and aptitude: the temper tantrums of a toddler, the musical skills of a 7-year-old, the exam success of a 16-year-old. Who did those come from? Was it upbringing or was it inherited?
