Two Generations: A Mother and Daughter Talk about Their Lives

  • Cynthia B. Costello

Abstract

I interviewed Rosa and Sara Perez, a mother and daughter, in December 2001. Rosa, age 61, was born in Chihua, Mexico.* Her parents moved with their 10 children to El Paso, Texas, when Rosa was eight. Since El Paso is only 300 miles from Chihua, the family frequently traveled back and forth across the border to visit relatives while Rosa was growing up. Rosa married at age 21 and was 22 when she had her first child. Her five daughters are now between the ages of 27 and 39.
