Abstract
I cannot express the sorrow I feel in my heart. My heart is constricted. Since the day I heard of the latest developments affecting Iran, I have barely slept; I am profoundly disturbed, and my heart is constricted. With a sorrowful heart, I count the days until death shall come and deliver me.
Imam Khomeini delivered this speech in front of his residence in Qum. Together with the declaration he issued on the same subject, it was the immediate cause for his forced exile from Iran on November 4, 1964. Source: S.H.R., Barrasi va Tahlili az Nihazat-i Imam Khomeini (Najaf, n.d.) pp. 716–26.
