Abstract
We live in a democracy. There is freedom of speech, but not all debates are equal.
Editors’ note: The Chiennes de garde (Watch-bitches) was originally created in 1999 in response to sexist insults aimed at women in public office. This manifesto was signed by a number of prominent French men and women, shocked by the growing verbal violence against women politicians in particular and supporters of the Chiennes de garde’s actions. The English translation in this volume can be found at http://www.chiennesdegarde.org/englishmanifesto.html.
