Abstract

Science fiction (SF) is the genre most directly concerned with science and technology. Although it is sometimes heralded for its scientific credibility or its predictions of technological developments, for us SF is more interesting as a cultural expression of attitudes to technology. We shall consider SF in this chapter not as a projection into the future, or into outer space, but as a reflection of contemporary cultural values attributed to technology.
