Abstract
This chapter explores a specific curricular development in Sweden (SWEDKID, an antiracist website for young people 12 years of age and upwards) as an exemplar of new patterns of governing in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, in relation to historically and culturally specificity on the one hand, and global relations on the other (see introduction to this book). It illuminates recent shifts in Swedish discourses surrounding immigration, information technology, schooling, and welfare to show how global, state and educational policies, economies, and shifts in patterns of governance, impact on locally situated practices.
Revised version of paper presented at the conference “Governing Patterns of the Child, Education and the Welfare State,” Norsjö, Sweden, 18–20 May 2001
