Abstract

Visitors to the National Cultural History Museum in Pretoria might opt to linger over a meal in the African Window Restaurant, located on its main floor. The bill of fare on a warm spring day in 2003 offered two options: a “Western meal” featuring chicken á la king with rice, or the “ethnic meal” consisting of tripe with pap.

It’s only history if you steal something really large-like a country. Then it’s history.
