Abstract

This book reported the results of two analytic tasks: the construction of a comparative poverty profile for six countries of Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union, and an assessment of the social assistance delivery systems in these countries. To that effect, we constructed a comparative data set, whereby household survey data from the six countries (Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Estonia, Kyrgyz republic, and Russia) were carefully checked, cleaned, and made comparable. We dubbed this data set HEIDE—Household Expenditure and Income Data for Transitional Economies.
