Abstract

This chapter reviews common neuropsychiatric symptoms, their expression among Latinx individuals with dementia, and their effect on caregiver burden in this population. As the understanding of dementia syndromes has progressed, increasing attention has been devoted to the neurological, psychiatric, and affective symptoms that commonly accompany neurodegeneration. Most large-scale studies have shown that at least one symptom or syndrome can be identified in almost all individuals diagnosed with dementia. These symptoms impose significant burden on caregivers and on the healthcare system.
