Ambulatory Arrhythmias

Normal cardiac function relies on the exquisitely coordinated flow of electrical impulses through the heart. Abnormalities of this electrical flow are known as arrhythmias and are amongst the most common clinical problems encountered in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. The presentation of arrhythmia can range from a benign sensation of palpitations to cardiovascular collapse and death. Therefore, a thorough basic understanding of the mechanisms, basic evaluation and treatment of arrhythmia is important to the daily practice of outpatient clinical medicine.
