Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a common chronic immuno­­logic and debilitating disease affecting about 0.5–1% of the population worldwide.1 It is a systemic disorder involving mainly the peripheral synovial joints in a symmetrical fashion and leads to the progressive destruction of the involved joints.
