Abstract

Chronic venous insufficiency can be defined as an impairment of the venous system so that it cannot adequately fulfill its main function, which consists of the drainage of venous blood flow from the periphery to the heart; similarly, chronic lymphatic insufficiency is described as a fault of the lymphatic system impairing its ability to perform its major mechanical function, which is to clear the interstitial space of large molecules and excess fluid.1,2
