Abstract
Abdominal surgeries cover a broad spectrum of operations ranging from relatively low-risk procedures, such as elective herniorrhaphy and cholecystectomy, to major high-risk procedures such as pancreatectomy and emergency laparotomy for bowel obstruction bowel obstruction perforation, or bleeding. Patients undergoing abdominal procedures often have multiple comorbidities that need to be optimized to prevent postoperative complications or ameliorate prolonged recovery.
