  • Common condition (5% of older population) but frequently asymptomatic

  • Abnormal bone turnover results in remodelling of bone shape and size

  • Bony pelvis, femur and skull most frequently affected

  • Radiographs demonstrate altered bone architecture, bone sclerosis and disorganised trabecular structure

  • Although many cases asymptomatic, may cause bone pain. Increased risk of fracture and nerve, cord or brain compression. Osteosarcoma (0.1%) is a rare complication
