Abstract

There are more than 100 joints in the body, not to mention muscles, tendons and other soft tissue structures. Some joints are superficial and easy to examine, others like hips and sacroiliac joints are deep and difficult to assess. The same severity of disease (e.g. in Rheumatoid arthritis) will produce very different clinical findings in an MCP joint (swelling/deformity) compared with a hip (usually no swelling/deformity).
