Stellar Evolution

  • Gerald North

This chapter takes up the story of what is believed to happen to a star after it has settled onto the main sequence. Astronomers’ ideas are still very theoretical, though there are plenty of examples of stars in apparently different stages of their lives to bolster the theorists’ models. The timescales might be wrong, but astronomers do have confidence in the basic details.
