Morsleben Nuclear Waste Repository Probabilistic Safety Assessment of the Long-Term Safety

Abstract

The probabilistic safety assessment for a radioactive waste repository in a former salt mine is presented. Even with a simplified model, the number of parameters is high. Uncertainties in the parameter values are taken care of by pessimistic distribution functions. The probabilistic analysis allows calculating the radiation exposure for a wide variety of simultaneous parameter variations and assigning an upper limit to the probability of exceeding the calculated dose rate. Special system analysis is used to identify the relevant parameters and to optimize the closure concept.
