A Joint Spare-Provisioning and Preventive Maintenance Strategy for Availability Maximization under Limited Resources

This study considers a joint spare parts provisioning and preventive maintenance strategy model for the maximization of the stationary availability under resource constraints for a system subject to random failures. The investigated strategy is completely defined by the determination of the block replacement period T, the replenishment period R=kT k 1 2,..) and the maximal inventory level S. The optimal strategy, if it exists, maximizes the overall stationary availability of a series system made of n identical components, without exceeding the maintenance and inventory management budget. A mathematical model is developed based on the theory of renewals. A numerical algorithm is proposed to seek the optimal strategy.
