A PRA Approach to Evaluate Post-Fire Safe Shutdown Capacity for Risk-Informed Fire Analysis in Taiwan
A project sponsored by Taipower Company (TPC), called “Application of Risk-Informed Fire Analysis on Cable-Tray Wrapping for a BWR-4 in Taiwan”, was accomplished in January 2003. Meanwhile, another TPC sponsored project on the same topic for other two NPPs in Taiwan was succeeded and now is still on-going. Among the tremendous jobs in these projects, one important task that ever bothered the authors is how to determine the post-fire safe shutdown (PFSSD) capability for a certain cable-tray fire scenario. Although a draft guideline  had been issued by Brookhaven National Laboratory for the same purpose, it was found too concentrate on the component circuit effect. So, it is still difficult to judge the PFSSD capability in the viewpoint of the whole plant. Therefore, a methodology of the usage of full PRA model, the PFSSD method, has been developed in this study to judge the PFSSD capability easily. Examples with three different cases are also shown to illustrate the PFSSD capability codes. Although the main purpose of this study has been stated, all the whole scope of the project is illustrated in the following, especially emphasized on the qualitative analysis.
