SiGES: an innovative emergency management system for high density industrial sites

Abstract

This paper describes the main technical and functional specifications of a new Site Emergency Management System (called SiGES) that was installed in July 2003 in the petrochemical site of Porto Marghera, near Venice. The site hosts nine chemical companies producing a wide variety of potentially hazardous material such as ethylene, prophylene, butadiene, chlorine, vinyl chloride, hydrogen cyanide, toluene di-isocyanate, hydrogen fluoride, etc..
