Developing code that is error free is the Holy Grail of software engineering but, unfortunately, the quest for methods and tools to enable us to accomplish this successfully is still on going. In the mean time, we need to put up with errors within our programs. However, many programming languages provide the developer with the ability to “catch” errors as they occur and perform some action in response. This action may be something as simple as displaying an error message warning the user that something has happened but the program is still allowed to continue executing. In more fatal cases, the program may have to be halted immediately.
