To convert an idea or a need into the information from which a new product or system can be made requires a transformation from vague concepts to defined objects, from abstract thoughts to the solution of detailed problems. It is through the engineering design process that this transformation takes place. Successful management of this process boils down to the effective handling of three issues:
• Activities of the design team.
• Output from the design team.
• Influences on the design team.
