Solid Modelling and CAD Systems

Abstract

This chapter deals with methods and tools to support the initial phases of design and to integrate the information generated into CAD. The chapter is not about design itself, which is too complex a topic to deal with in depth in this book. The early phase of design is important because that is where many important decisions are made which affect the quality and cost of products. The chapter describes some tools which have been developed to help with some aspects as well as some other methods on which computer tools could be based. Integrating these into a wider CAD environment is important to provide information continuity within that environment.
