Timeline and Evolution of Face Transplant Cadaver Models



The first worldwide IRB-approved protocol for facial transplantation was obtained by Dr. Siemionow and colleagues at the Cleveland Clinic in 2004. To date, the most complex near-total face transplant remains the one performed in December, 2008 at the Cleveland Clinic (Cleveland, OH). The purpose of this chapter is to describe in detail the strategic evolution of our team’s tailored, cadaver dissection model in preparation for its first clinical application.
