Abstract

  • To derive the general equations of motion of translational flight in the planet-fixed frame from first principles in a systematic fashion. These equations govern the flight of all aerospace vehicles (airplanes, rockets, spacecraft, and entry vehicles).

  • To present three-degree-of-freedom atmospheric flight models, including planetary form, rotation, aerodynamics, and propulsion.

  • To simulate the important atmospheric and transatmospheric trajectories with detailed analytical insight into airplane flight, rocket ascent, and planetary entry.
