Abstract

Islet transplantation can be considered an alternative to pancreas transplantation in two cases: simultaneous islet-kidney transplantation in uremic diabetic patients previously submitted to kidney-pancreas transplantation, who eventually lost the function of the two grafts, and diabetic patients who received kidney transplantation alone.
