Abstract
The potential association between menopause, sex hormones, and rheumatic disorders has long been alluded to. In the early nineteenth century Haygarth noted the “nodosities” of joints that occurred at the menopause and Weil, in 1928, pointed to the inevitability of arthritis following female castration. Many of the comprehensive studies of symptoms seen in perimenopausal women cite joint pains as one of the most frequently encountered complaints [1].
