Abstract

Spinach fields are intensively widespread in Menemen, Bulgurca and Torbah districts of the city of Izmir-Turkey. Twenty one fields were selected and soil and plant (blade+petiole) samples were taken to study the heavy metal (Pb, Cd, Cr, Co, Ni, Fe, Cu, Zn and Mn) concentrations. Generally, Ni contents of soil samples were found high. Pb, Cd, Cr, Co, Ni, and Fe were high in some of the leaf blade samples. But Ni concentrations of the petioles were found higher than leaf blades.
