Abstract

We now go on to consider the centers of geosets, one of which-the mean center-is the oldest and the most popular of all the geostatistical parameters. Summarizing the locations of the elements of a geoset by a center is somewhat analogous to averaging the values X i of a variable X (such as personal income or family size). We shall discuss the similarities and differences between these oper- ations, denoted, respectively, by centers (of a geoset) and averages (of a one- dimensional variable).
