Parameters of Form

Shapes of Territories and Patterns of Populations

In this chapter we shall discuss parameters of the main aspects of the “form” of a geoset. We use this term in a somewhat arbitrary way to indicate both the shape of a territory and the pattern of distribution of a population geoset. Our interest in a territory is mainly (but not exclusively) focused on its function as a container of a population. Parameters of shape of a territory measure patterns of the uniform distributions and at the same time serve as a basis for the comparison of patterns of distributions of actual population geosets over the territory. In speaking of these patterns of distribution, we refer mainly to macrogeographical characteristics.
