Environmentally Driven Research — is it Different?

Barry Heywood began his presentation by distinguishing three possible interpretations of the title he had been given. Environmentally driven research, accordingly, can mean any one of three things:
environmentally or politically driven research;
environmentally benign research; or,
research about the environment.
