In many applications, e.g., computer graphics representation of parameter distributions (which we discuss in detail in Chapters 7 and 9) several properties of the color mapping are desirable in order to make effective use of color. Uniformity— the property that maps values to colors whose perceptual distances correspond to the distances between the values—is one of them.
