Transplantation Rates

Part of the Developments in Nephrology book series (DINE, volume 21)

Sensitized patients have less chance of receiving a transplant because they are more likely to be positive in the cross-match test. Therefore sensitized patients accumulate on waiting lists and non-sensitized patients are transplanted preferentially. The longer a patient is waiting for a transplant, the higher the chance of complications, perhaps even death.
