Abstract

Regression models are used to study how a dependent or response variable depends on an independent variable or variables. The regression function f(x) is defined as the mean for a response variable Y when the independent variable equals x. In model form, with n observations, we may write
$$Y_i = f(x_i ) + \in _{i,} \quad i = 1,..., n$$
, with \(E\varepsilon _i = 0.\)
