In hypothesis testing data are used to infer which of two competing hypotheses, H 0 or H 1, is correct. As before, \(X \sim P_{\theta} \) for some \(\theta \epsilon \Omega\), and the two competing hypotheses are that the unknown parameter θ lies in set Ω 0 or in set Ω 1, written
$$H_0 :\theta \in \Omega _0 \; {\rm versus} \; H_0 :\theta \in \Omega _1.$$
