Sapphire Road Primary School is situated in South Africa, in the city of Port Elizabeth, in the province of the Eastern Cape, which has a population of about 7.5 million people. The Eastern Cape Province is one of the most rural provinces in the country. It is also one of the largest provinces geographically and the third poorest of all nine provinces. Here, the daily struggle for a better life is waged more intensely because even after the advent of democracy in 1994, the sting of our apartheid history remains highly visible in many spheres of civil society.
