Abstract

Viet Nam is a rapidly developing nation with a population of more than 84 million people, half of whom are under the age of 25. In recent years the socialist state has embraced far-reaching social and economic reforms and has come to be seen by many as an example of an effective development model. Viet Nam has lifted millions out of poverty and distributed the economic gains of its rapid growth fairly evenly across its society (International Development Association, 2007). According to the World Bank (2007), the country is “well positioned to achieve all the Millennium Development Goals by 2015.”
