In this chapter we will give an introduction to the theory of wavelets and wavelet transforms from the viewpoint of Harmonic Analysis. We will not be able to cover all theoretical aspects of wavelet theory, but we shall at least give a first introduction into this fascinating field. A much more complete coverage is given in the Lecture Notes [15], which we recommend for further reading.
