Abstract

M69 is a globular star cluster in Sagittarius and was discovered by Charles Messier in 1780. To most instruments, it appears to be about 7 arcminutes across but long exposure photographs suggest it is about 9.8 arcminutes in diameter. It is 29,700 light years away from us but only 6,200 light years away from the galactic center. None of its stars is bright enough to be seen in most amateur instruments.
