Abstract
Since 1952 when the first kidney transplant was accomplished, nearly 400,000 transplantations have been performed with donors being from both deceased and living donors. However, almost 100,000 patients with end-stage organ failure remain on the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) waiting list for organ transplantation.
