Adjusting to the Position
Moving from a faculty position into administration requires a period of adjustment for you, for your former faculty colleagues, and for your new associates. You are now relating to people on an entirely different level, and that can be difficult, frustrating, and stressful. It’s important to assume the role and responsibilities of the new position while retaining the personal characteristics that made you an attractive candidate and qualified for the position in the first place.
There are some things that come only with experience. Getting to the point where you feel comfortable in an administrative position takes time. Part of the comfort level relates to personal interactions, while other parts relate to developing certain management skills to be successful in the position.
