Abstract

Elbow region injection/aspiration procedures include those into joints, bursae, and tendon insertion sites as summarized in Table 7.17.1. Unlike injections into other body regions, in particular the shoulder where diagnostic injection procedures can play a major role in patient management, elbow region injections are more commonly therapeutic than diagnostic in intent. Exceptions to this, however, include aspiration in the setting of suspected crystalline arthropathy or suspected radial head fractures. Therapeutic injection procedures into the elbow region are commonly performed in conjunction with rehabilitation therapy or after conservative measures have failed.
