Constrained Layer Damping Treatment of Thick Cylindrical Structures

Abstract

The provided solution for determination of modal characteristics of a continuous, elastic, single-layer, thick cylinder is extended to a single viscoelastic layer by considering complex elastic moduli for the medium. The systematic solution for each cylindrical layer is formulated to develop a solution for a damped three-layer cylindrical structure. It has been proven that this type of passive damping treatment is an effective vibration suppression technique for most structures. This chapter provids the required mathematical model along with the computed results for a number of case studies.
