Soifer – a math prodigy, Soviet 'emigr'e and professor at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs – is the driving force behind the Colorado Mathematical Olympiad. The 10th–annual event, which begins at 8:15 a.m. Friday in UCCS’s Science Hall, will pit the minds of up to 1,100 junior and senior high school students against five mad– deningly difficult problems devised by Soifer during spring break.
